Preserving Philippine Graphic Novels

by Jonas Diego

Show me the Money

The Philippine National Graphic Novel Archives will be funded by an initial amount of fifty million pesos from the Special Activities Fund of the President of the Philippines for the initial implementation. Afterward, the sum required for its “its operation, maintenance, research, development and extension activities shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act”.

It all looks good on Paper…

Honestly, I think this is a good break for Philippine Comics.

From what I read from the bill and my limited understanding of legalese (otherwise known as lawyerspeak), the rationale behind the creation of the Philippine National Graphic Novel Archives is sound and its intentions on paper good. It now depends if the powers that be thinks it has merit and approves the bill.

After that it’s all in the execution.

But for now, it’s good that the government has noticed Komiks and will hopefully be joining the fray.

Like the old Komiks serials used to say, “abangan ang susunod na kabanata”.
