If you weren’t making comic books what would you be doing for a living?
I’d probably be making music, or films, or novels, or video games—I have a compulsion to make things so I really can’t imagine doing anything that doesn’t involve the arts in one way or another. My twin brother’s studying to be a doctor right now, though, so in a local alternate universe, I guess I could also be in the noble business of medicine. You never know…
What is the best advice you can give to a comic book creator who is just starting out?
Make comics. Get down to it and actually finish a comics story. Put it out there somehow—publish it online, photocopy it—just do it. Then work on the next one. Rinse and repeat. Nothing improves your craft and your career faster than actually producing work. You’ll level up with each project and as you do, opportunities will arise to do more. In the immortal words of Robert Crumb—“Keep on truckin’”.
