You Make History

Learning Comics and Working for Marvel
He went on drawing until he posted his works online and Marvel saw them. Now, he has been working for Marvel, which has bee helping him support his family. But before Harvey could work for Marvel, he had to learn the real processes of comics creation. There were many things he had to learn. Before, he thought that when his drawings were full of ink and lines, they’re good enough already. But he realized: “Hindi lang pala pupunuin yung papel ng tinta…every panel should tell a story.”
When Harvey has to illustrate comics, he watches movies and researches a lot so he could figure out how to draw certain animals, objects and people. It may seem unoriginal to other people, but Harvey does not mind, because he keeps in mind what he has learned from his father, “no one is original because only God is original.”
His Part in the History
As one of the artists of “Ninoy: Art and Essays” (a book by artists and writers about the life of Ninoy Aquino, Sr.) Harvey shared his meeting with the late Former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino. Grabbing the chance, Harvey asked her how she and her husband Ninoy got together. Cory then told him that Ninoy saved his salaries for three months and used the money to hire an artist to draw a portrait of her as a gift. This simple anecdote struck Harvey because a particular artist was present in making history in the country.
Hence, every time he draws he gives his 100% best because for him, “Every time you draw, you make history.”
