Quipino
by Jonas Diego
Quipino is a comic strip created by Kristoffer A. Franco appearing every Sunday in the Manila Bulletin, second-oldest Philippine newspaper, comic section.
A compilation was released by the creator under the Core Studios banner at the recently concluded KOMIKON held at the Bahay ng Alumni at the University of the Philippines at Diliman, Quezon City.
Copies were being sold for Php 50.00 featuring a color cover and black and white interiors.
Quipino is one the more entertaining comic strip characters I’ve encountered recently.
Well-drawn and entertaining, it’s wholesome enough for young kids yet witty enough even for the more jaded comic book aficionados.
Quipino follows a one strip one gag format with running themes across several strips. His lines are crisp and clean which is a rarity nowadays as more and more comic book strip creators go for the gritty linework.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing but it kinda gets old especially when it’s all you see day in and day out.
Quipino is actually quite refreshing.

Follow his work in Manila Bulletin every Sunday.
