Lexy, Nance, & Argus
by Jonas Diego
Hello and welcome to another edition of Casting Call (long overdue…I know).
Let’s dive straight into the thick of things, shall we?
Toda we’re going to be doing a casting call for Oliver Pulumbarit’s opus Lexy, Nance, and Argus: Sex, Gods, Rock and Roll published by his imprint, Bittersweetness Comix. The books is 68 pages of pure black and white comic book goodness selling at Php 130.00 per copy.
Originally serialized at Pulp Magazine, Oliver compiled all the strips together with tons of bonus materia.
I was going over my copy the other day and thought that this would make an excellent movie
Nancy Castiglione as Nance
Who better to play Nance, sultry songstress and all around free spirit than another Nancy, Nancy Castiglione? Nancy, known otherwise as Nancy Jane Jimenez Castiglione, is a Canadian actress, model and host of Italian and Filipino heritage. She has appeared twice in the pages of FHM Philippines though the last I heard of her was sometime back in 2007.
I’m not sure what’s project she’s currently busy with but I’m willing to bet that she’d give justice to Nance on the big screen.
Carlos Agassi as Lexy
Lexy needs a big well built hunk to give him life on the big screen and Carlo Agassi is just what the director ordered. Carlos, or Amir Carlos Damaso Vahidi Agassi, is a Filipino-Iranian actor, TV host, rap artist, and model and was launched as a member of Star Circle (now Star Magic) Batch 3 in 1993.
Carlos will probably need to put on a bit more bulk to accurately portray Lexy who looks significantly bulkier in the comics than Carlos’ current frame.
Jericho Rosales as Argus
Argus Valdesma is the resident struggling comic book artist. One look at Jericho Rosales with a scruffy goatee and unkempt hair and you know that he’s perfect as Argus. Throw in some existentialist angst and you got the right mix.
Jericho, also known as Jericho Vibar Rosales or “Echo” as some close associates and friends call him, is a Filipino actor and band vocalist/guitarist and is currently an ABS-CBN talent.
Epy Quizon as Jun jun
We need someone who can bring all of Jun-jun’s pathos and angst to the screen and Epy is just the man for the job.
Epy Quizon, also known as Jeffrey Quizon, has made quite the name for himself as a versatile and intense actor.
Bodjie Pascua as Mang Jack
Mang Jack is the trio’s beloved kind and open-minded landlord who saved them from an unwanted “intervention” and theater veteran Bodjie Pascua hits the nail on the head (though admittedly I still see Kuya Bodjie from Batibot whenever I see him).
The comic is definitely good material especially for those indie film makers out to make a name for themselves. Oliver Pulumbarit’s Lexy, Nance, and Argus has award winning indie movie written all over it!
