Trypod, the student organization who organized the forum and the one who invited us over for the event, was very accommodating and efficient.

Unbeknown to us, they also invited a good friend and fellow Komikero Wilson Tortosa whose current work Wolverine Manga is currently making waves overseas.

Wilson however, continues to remain humble about his accomplishments and more than eager to share the tricks of the trade so to speak with the young minds who were to be our audience that day.

The forum was part of APC’s Pop Art Week.

Together with Gerry Alanguilan and Johnny Danganan, we discussed Philippine comic books’ rich history, the need for a formalized system of learning, and the business involved in the production and distribution of digital comic books. We also talked lengthily about the potential of this medium.

We conducted a portfolio review after the lectures, autographed stuff, and made some quick sketches on offered pieces of paper and various other surfaces which included the backs of some of the students’ t-shirts.
