What’s the best thing that can happen to the Filipino comic book industry?
That it flourishes as an industry enough that I can quit all my other jobs and just work on this one!
What’s the worst thing that can happen to the Filipino comic book industry?
Cultural apathy.
If you weren’t making comic books what would you be doing for a living?
Probably teaching. It was only ever a choice between art and teaching, and thankfully, between my comics work and my art school, I get to scratch both itches.
What is the best advice you can give to a comic book creator who is just starting out?
I always tell my students, if you want to be a writer, then write. If you want to be an illustrator, then draw. The feeling of getting published, becoming a best-seller, winning awards, receiving critical acclaim, they’re all extraordinary, but you still have to be willing and disciplined enough to do the work to get there.
