Sen. Manny Villar on Komiks and Obscenity
by Jonas Diego
Before I begin, first a disclaimer…
Sen. Manny Villar indeed has plans of running for the presidency this coming 2010. However, me writing about the good senator should be in no way be misconstrued as a declaration of my support for his presidency. I am merely reporting back about his stand on two issues that is particularly close to the artists community of which I am a part of.
Now, that I got that out of the way…
I had the opportunity to sit down for coffee with Sen. Manny Villar last July 16, 2009 Thursday together with five other bloggers at Bo’s Coffee over at the Fort. It was an informal affair where we were given the privilege to get to know the Senator together with his family and a few select staff in a relaxed and comfortable setting.

then i reckon, everything (for the comics industry) should be alright given that the right push is given…
Hopefully, Jim.
Tax incentives will be definitely welcome. I also got a couple of new ideas I got brewing but I’ll probably be writing more about them later.
I really doubt if tax incentives for creators, much less comics creators, will be passed. After all, these legislators have been promising the same for movie workers. After having elected a president, several senators, and councilors from the film industry to office, such incentives still have to see the light of day. Ano pa kaya ang mga komikeros? I don’t think voting Jonas or Gerry will tilt the favor our way. Maraming kalaban. Hehe.
He he he! Gerry or myself in politics?
That will be the day.
Too much censorship, or placing censorship on virtually anything and everything is wrong. Whether some people like it or not, some pieces of art, that a lot would consider obscene, may actually be a huge influence in the creation and growth of present and future artists.
